Biography
Francesco Lanzillotta is one of his generation’s most interesting conductors. Born in Rome, he graduated in conducting under the guidance of Bruno Aprea at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Roma and in composition with Luciano Pelosi. He also studied piano and violoncello.

Musical Director of Macerata Opera Festival from 2017 to 2021
He has established an important career, performing regularly in some among the most prestigious Italian opera houses including Teatro Regio in Torino, Teatro La Fenice in Venezia, Teatro San Carlo in Napoli, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Macerata Opera Festival, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Firenze, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro Verdi in Trieste and others.



He worked internationally with some of the most important opera theaters as Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Staatsoper in Berlin, Vienna State Opera, Theatre An Der Wien, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Semperoper in Dresden, Opernhaus Zürich, Palau des arts in Valencia, La Monnaine in Bruxells, Opéra national de Lyon, Open Frankfurt, Aalto-Musiktheatre Essen, Hungarian State Opera, Opernhaus Zürich, Opéra de Lausanne, Tiroler Festspiele Erl,
In 2022 he made his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper conducting Puritani.
In the same year he is invited in Frankfurt after his debut in 2018 conducting La traviata for a new production of Ulisse by Dallapiccola.
He conducted the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra and the Chorus of Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in San Petersburg in a symphonic concert, the Novaya Rossya State Symphony Orchestra in Moscow and a production of The marriage of Figaro in Bolshoi Theatre.
He conducted The marriage of Figaro in Bejing and L’italiana in Algeri in Budapest as well as symphonic concerts in South Corea and Toronto.
He made his debut in Monpellier conducting Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini and La notte di un nevrastenico by Nino Rota.
Constantly invited by Tiroler Festspiele Erl he will come back again to conduct a new production of Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti and a symphonic concert in 2022-2023.
After his debut at La Monnaine in Bruxelles in 2021 he will come back in 2023 for a big project on Donizetti’s scores as a conductor and composer.
In 2017 he made his debut in Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro obtained a great success and he will come back for the 2023 edition.
At Maggio Musicale Fiorentino theatre he conducted West Side Story bu Leonard Bernstein and Risurrezione by Franco Alfano.
In 2022 he come back to Teatro Regio in Turin with big success conducting Norma.
in 2025 he made his debut in Rome with Orchestra and Chorus of Accademia of Santa Cecilia conducting Antigone by Mendelssohn.
In 2025 he will also conduct a symphonic concert in Carnegie Hall in New York.
His opera repertoire goes from classic repertoire to the contemporary one. In fact, in 2014 he conducted the premiere of Il medico dei pazzi and in 2019 7 Minuti by Battistelli.
In 2022 new operas by Marco Betta and Lucio Gregoretti in Accademia Nazionale of Santa Cecilia.
He is often invited by orchestras as Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano, Orchestra Nazionale della Rai di Torino, Filarmonica Toscanini di Parma, dell’Orchestra della Toscana-ORT, Orchestra La Verdi di Milano., Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, l’Opera Nazionale di Montpellier, l’Orchestra di Stato Libanese, conducting opera and symphonic repertorio.
Winner of the prestigious composition prize Valentino Bucchi nel 2005 with “Rapsodici percorsi”, first prize in Nino Rota composition competition as well as he won the Oreste Sindici and Fontane di Roma composition prize. He writes music for ballet, movies, theatre.
